Natural Organic Captive Born/Bred
The Orange Armadillidium werneri, is an orange mutation of the wild type A. werneri, native to Corfu. They have a very similar appearance to the A. klugii clown isopod, only they are slightly larger, express a bright orange body with white to orange spots, and have five rows of spots instead of three. Orange werneri isopods can be a little difficult to establish, but once the colony is thriving, they are a hardy and rewarding species to work with.
Armadillidium werneri - Orange
Size: .92 inches.
Housing: Plastic storage bin or glass terrarium
Food Preferences: Vegetables, dried leaves, grasses, Reptanicals Isopod Feast, Reptanicals Shredded Shrimp
Temp Requirements: approx. 70 Degrees to 85 Degrees. Extreme cold and heat can be lethal. May go dormant in winter if kept in colder temps.
Breeding: Intermediate - with proper care sub-adults will begin to breed before reaching full size, but cultures can be difficult to establish. This species can take a few weeks/months to start, occasionally with a few losses to elder adults before numbers really start to show (no it's not just you/or us/them).
Substrate: Coconut coir, peat moss, or Reptanicals Bug Bedding, slightly moist with a layer of leaf litter
Humidity: slightly humid, mist one side of enclosure to create a moisture gradient, offer a hefty area of moist moss on the "wet" side.
Enrichment: offer various types of mosses (pillow, sheet) to serve as both snacks and hiding spaces. Cork pieces, coconut halves, and lotus pods all make great hides and climbing spaces.
